During early mid is the time where min-maxing matters the least. You are not more likely to get Oculus than any of the items above. Shako has a higher STR requirement than a Broad Sword, not to mention things like War Travs, Tal's Armor, an upped Goldwrap, or even a run of the mill Mage Plate.

There is a very popular idea that 'you should get a Crystal Sword for the lower strength requirement' when making Spirit which has never made sense: you will be forced to invest more points in strength than a Broad Sword requires in order to wear common equipment goals.
